Compare the old Airwolf DVDs to new HD Airwolf Bluray S1-3 release
Below are a series of screenshot comparisons showing the differences between the older Airwolf DVD prints from Universal-Playback used for years, and the brand new 2014, restored, High-Definition HD versions that Universal created for the new, UK (Region B) Airwolf Bluray boxsets from Fabulous Films in the UK. These have subsequently been used as the picture basis for the other Region B release in 2015 by Koch Media in Germany.
Restored from the original Airwolf 35mm negatives at Universal Studios, these wonderful new prints of the 1980s 'Airwolf' TV series reveal a brand new level of detail, colour and clarity never before seen or shown with the show on any format, whether broadcast, tape or disc. It's like watching the show again for the first time and the picture looks absolutely wonderful on any modern LED television.
Note that Universal have kept the picture in it's original 4:3 format (i.e. the way it was originally filmed in 1984-1986!) so that all the picture detail has remained and not cut off just to be artificially "Arc'd" out to 16:9. The majority of the show's fans prefer to leave it the way the original producers intended back in the day.
There is very slightly cropping at the edges of the negative compared to the original "overscan" on the off-air prints and the 4:3 DVD, which you can see in most of the photos below. This was to maintain a clear edge.
The only downside to the release was that two small scenes from Season 1 episode "BITE OF THE JACKAL" were cut unfortunately whether done to ignorance of the operator or that part of the episode's print wasn't available.
Apart from that, it is just fabulous!

"To demonstrate Airwolf’s tactical capabilities, it will penetrate a typical Soviet defence zone; the type used around their ICBM sites, their military command posts, communication installations."
"This isn’t a simulation, Senator. Those guns out there are loaded."

"If Airwolf can kick butt like you say it can, you've developed yourself a tactical weapon. That's not the Firm's mission!"
"No sir, it's not, but when the project started 20 years ago after the Bay of Pigs, the Firm's priorities were a little different and as the years went by..."
"And the project grew! Now you got Topsy what are you gonna do with her? You can only keep the lid on testing and development for so long; and if the Firm puts Airwolf in the field, it'll leak to Congress in a week; and they won't take kindly to the Firm developing secret, tactical weapons."
