Wow... sometimes you think this day would never come.

So its official, the tracklist is a confirmed done deal now, and all that's left is recording?

'Airwolf Main Themes EP', best album of 2009?

PRE-PRODUCTION TRACKLIST

IMPORTANT NOTES:
First thing is that this is liable to change in Engineering during the production periods starting from now, with most of it completed during September & October, although some straggler tracks could find themselves running into November or December.

We also reserve the right to completely pull tracks if they don't make it out the other side of Engineering and we're not entirely happy with them.

Track times (and even Track Names) are also likely to change between Pre-production estimates and final master.

SO WHY DID YOU OMIT THIS OR THAT?
We fully realise that not every single piece of Airwolf music, that every fan, who has ever asked, has ever wanted, will be on this release. However, it does encompass what the "majority" of Airwolf fans wanted on the original research polls. There will of course be some episodes that didn't make it upon evaluation for various reasons. That's just the way it is and we know we'll not keep everyone happy and there will no doubt, be some who will storm off in disgust. Such is life folks and we've done our best to accommodate nearly everybody. We have to call the line somewhere.

There will be 30+ tracks on his sequel album overall which is quite a sizeable handful more than were even on the original 'Airwolf Themes' as we wanted to give the best value-for-money possible, whilst giving the widest selection possible.

WHEN WILL IT BE READY?
We envisage that studio engineering will be complete by Christmas 2011. That will finish the paperwork and track lengths required etc.

After that, we'll need a final sign-off from Universal, and to complete our paperwork with the various music agencies we work with. Universal will no doubt be the slow-poke here, judging by past performance (they've always been under-staffed and over-worked). Yawn. zzzzzzzzz.

Once that process is complete we can push the button to final production which will take about 3 weeks.

WHEN ARE YOU TAKING PRE-ORDERS?
Probably when we've pushed the final green light for production and only then. We'd guestimate by the time Universal get their finger out and everything else is sorted it'll be March-April 2012 before that happens. Yup, we're behind our original end-of-2011 estimate, so apologies.

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?
The price has yet to be set, however it is not a mass-market release and it will be a based on UK production costs, that, given 12 years' of inflation [including massively increased postage & Airmail costs -- of which we'll only use the premium Registered service] will probably not be too far away from last time. But we'll see.

Would still advise saving a few extra post-Christmas shekels from now on any way in lieu (if you're interested of course).

AIRWOLF EXTENDED THEMES PACKAGE will include:

Wow, that's quite a list. Something tells me it'll be altered though before everything is final. Dunno, just a gut feeling.

Mark's CD2 is just destined to be awesome. I'm assuming the lack of descriptions of each track means that Mark's just going for full suites from each episode to fatten up the whole thing and get a well-rounded experience of each episode.

Jan's CD1, has pros and cons imho. Not to slight anything from Jan's ability, he is THE MAN when it comes to composing the main theme. No one has duplicated the original sound AND improved upon it, so the guy is amazing.

However, CD1 looks like a completists take on the main theme. Obviously there is one obvious glaring omission, that was popularly demanded, and that is the Season 4 Main Theme. I still think CD1 needs it. Another issue is CD1 seems to be DOMINATED by "Pilot" tracks of the main theme. Now granted, i'm not as familiar with all these alternate takes between the TV version of the "Pilot" versus the movie version of the "Pilot", but it seems to have a heavy prescence. I assume it's to extend the running time of CD1, considering beyond those "Pilot" variations of the main theme, there isn't much left to cover on the main theme (other than Season 4), that isn't covered on Jan's CD1, that wasn't tackled on the original Airwolf Themes release. The only other thing than Season 4 that comes to mind, is that take on the main theme that appeared in "Birds of Paradise".

Either way, those are my initial thoughts. I'm still anxious to see what the finished album will look like. Not to slight Jan, but part of me is more anxious to hear Mark's takes on the scoring of the series, rather than the main theme. I think the Airwolf Main Themes EP is part of that reason. Once I heard those initial takes, it was like "okay that's really good, that's where that's going, now I want to hear the new episodic stuff", which I personally thought was the master stroke of the original release.

Beyond my original statement, some questions directly related to CD1...

1) What are the differences between the EP tracks, and their appearence on the new LP?

2) What is the 3rd Season ALTERNATIVE remix? What's that?

3) What does 'Track 9 omitted' mean? There is no track 9? Or that it's being hidden for revelation on the album's release or finalized tracklist?

Just curious. Not meaning to pry. Take it from an original Airwolf Themes purchaser, i've been anxiously awaiting the sequel for a decade. Pardon my curiosity on the project.

"Completists take":

From the very beginning the AMT/AET project was all about the Main Theme. This is the main (sic!) thing that people were always after in terms of Airwolf soundtrack. Virtually every variation that you'll find on CD1 has been requested at some point.

"PILOT domination":

That is just not true. There are three tracks that are directly related to PILOT: 05, 08 and 06 (half of it actually). Track 14 is a slightly different story - we knew we wanted to include an orchestral version and we picked out the version that was most heavily requested. If the album is dominated by anything it's Season 2: tracks 01, 02, 03, 07, 10, 15 and half of 06. That's almost HALF of the entire CD.

By no means these tracks have been introduced just to extend CD running time. I obviously put quality before quantity. The purpose was to cover every smallest nuance of the main theme. When the CD is out I will create a detailed guide for each track...

Track 09:

The track order that you see is by no means the final order that will actually appear on CD1. What you see is our internal numbering that has been pretty much stable since the very beginning of the project (2006/2007). We just didn't want to introduce another numbering between our internal and final numberings. Track 09 was planned for but it was canceled. You can pretty much guess what it was.

EP vs LP:

Track 04 (EP track 03) has been remastered and sounds closer to the original. Similar thing will be done to track 06 (EP track 04) as it shares significant portions of the Season 1 bits.

3rd Season ALTERNATIVE remix:

This should actually read "ALTERNATE". Let's make it a "the mystery track" for the time being... wink

Holy turbo thrusters! Wow...I believe there's nothing in there that I don't like, thanks so much Mark and Jan thumbs. Really appreciate all the effort you and everyone else has put into this release.

Just one tiny question...is there a possibility of Echoes orchestral score?

And when you mention the price point, do you mean we should expect it to be around the same range as the original CD? Though the downloadbales would be cheaper right?

Won't be ECHOS orchestral... will be the original Holy Grail... the PILOT sand dune orchestral against Moffet, with hopefully Gabrielle's death as the emotional prequel to start it.

As for price, yes, it's looking likely it will be in and around what it was back in 1999 even though this one's going to be even better value-for-money than AWT. I've said all along it would be treated as a premium release again. We don't have the resources of the big boys or the studios so Airwolf Extended Themes has never been aimed at the mainstream market anyway.

There will be NO downloadable versions (well, for as long as the 'think-they're-trendy, file-sharing kudos bees' leave us alone.) at least for the duration and some time thereafter of the existence of physical product. Airwolf Extended Themes is intended to be the pure, physical, uncompressed product that the majority of folks who like real things one can hold in one's hand may be interested in.

The Airwolf Main Themes EP will still exist on-line as the taster to the real 2CD product, as it was always intended.

RE: Pilot Domination

What I was referring to was to have 3-4 main theme tracks, directly related to ONE episode, rather than a particular season.

Either way, I understand the use of more Season 2 variations of the main theme, simply for the fact that the main theme seemed to be tweaked and tweaked and over-tweaked during that season. Three composers did different takes, and those of course all have to be represented.

RANDOM TARGET is the only one left here on my "reserve" list Bill.

You're the third person in two weeks to ask me for it but I'm in two minds as there's so little to the music in this episode. I have the original mix done months ago for it but there's just nothing to it. Listening to it as I'm typing this.

3 parts -- from the opening: slow Descending bridge theme (30 secs), then the "this isn't your ordinary-powered pole jumper" bit (57 secs), then the bit where they kill Sam Kowal (53 secs). That's it really. zzzzz

I think you guys have covered pretty much the best of Airwolf. With the previous release and this one, there's not much left.

The only ones I personally would have loved to see is Echoes Orchestral theme which I always preferred over Pilot's for some reason, not that I don't appreciate it. And One Way Express theme where String is flying Airwolf pondering over the issue.

I'm pretty much content with what we're getting smile. So, after this are you guys done with Airwolf?

O by the way, I needed to ask, since this is looking to be expensive and I need to start saving, what should be my target?

Yeah, this is pretty much it with Airwolf. We still have our eye on "STREET HAWK" down the road.

It'll be in and around last time's cost (which WAS GBP25-28) with packaging and recorded/registered delivery etc., but we'll see. If the figures say it can be less it will (Royal Mail have upped their prices big style on postage since the late 1990s, and they now have "penalties" for sizes and thicknesses of packages - zzzzzz).

Once all the production and licensing costs are in, finished and finalised, then I can work it out to the penny.

Obviously non-UK folks need to allow for exchange rate differences to (we're working on our jolly old "rip-off Britain" rates (as we endure here), not USA, or Far East mass-produced costs).

Mark,

This is just an idea, as track 09 has been removed, would it be an idea to replace it with the Random Target of Caitlin's flying lesson? I appreciate that you feel less inspired by it's relevance, but perhaps it has more credence than say season 4?

Overall, I am delighted that the new CD is nearing readiness and I look forward to it's release.

thanks

There'll be no mix 'n' match between the two CDs with Main Themes and Episodic Themes.

Again, it's sitting there in reserve. I've already worked out it's probably around 71 minutes of music (give or take) at the moment, so we're getting near the "safe" 74 mins limit again.

I'll see. Maybe at the very very end if there's space or if I've time or budget left I'll squeeze it in at Einstein. Defo not promising anything at all though for the reasons I've already given above.

I gotta be honest, it really is a TIGHT tight tracklist on both discs. Other than the one main theme i've already mentioned, I can't think of much other ones from the series that have been ignored, and keeping in mind quite a bit already got represented on the original AWT.

For Mark:

What's the "Where Have All The Children Gone?" piece gonna be like? That might be one of my absolute favorite pieces from the show, that ending aerial before the main theme kicks in. I mean total drama, total great music, still pumps me up like none-other from the episodic stuff.

So is it gonna just be dedicated to that piece, or is it gonna be a full suite from the episode?

For Jan:

Two more questions.

1) What's track 7 -- 2nd Season Aerial? The AMT EP release already covered one, the Ian Freebairn-Smith aerial is obvious, but i'd appreciate a tad more clarification on exactly what this 4-minute version of the 2nd Season aerial is. Is it an extended version of that softer main theme that was used mid-season?

2) That 3rd Season Alternate theme.... that's not that "Birds of Paradise" aerial is it?

Hi Mark,

I understand and appreciate that there are already to be lots of good music on both CDs. The very best of luck to both you and Jan with the CD production.

Overall, I appreciate music so much in my life. It just saddens me sometimes that I can not sing nor play any musical instrument. I take my hat off to both you and Jan. You are both truly gifted and have enriched the lives of all us Airwolf fans!

Cheers,

Greg

thanks

the 'WHERE?' track is a medley of:

- opening funeral scene
- "Go away. I warn you. Go away!"
- "Sabrina, the missile!?" (which encompasses both the previous arrest / cop chase scenes too - as it's played again in the main pre-aerial "Spaceguard release" sequence) - 3.5mins on this third part alone.

Thanks for all the info Mark.

I had the impression that the price would be around $100 or so, much relieved to know its not.

As for Street Hawk, there already is a soundtrack available here: http://www.madeofme.com/compositions.htm

But honestly, I'd happy to listen to your work as well laugh.

Hmmm, the Italian fellow, whats-his-name who did these so-called Street Hawk soundtracks has done it in name only, if you actually listen to the tracks. It's just an outlet for his own tunes, whilst admirable, rather than being based on actual episodic tracks. He himself calls it a "Re-interpretation". Plus how would he know what the "unpublished" tracks were without using Chris Franke's original tapes?

I don't think any of the Street Hawk fans have ever understood why he's called his stuff Street Hawk, apart from to put a label on it.

One I found out about recently that I was over-the-moon with was the 1990 Warner Bros show 'THE FLASH' (with Danny Elfman / Shirley Walker) was released last year by LaLaLand. One ticked off the list anyway. smile

Yes, it is his interpretation. Still it is good work. But as a fan, I would appreciate the episodic tracks smile.

And I had no idea you were looking into the Flash as well. That was one heck of a show, with an awesome soundtrack. Thanks for passing on that info about the soundtrack. Need to get that too now grin.

That's it really. zzzzz

Yeah, I understand Mark. I just love that slow descending bridge theme. It is so COOL!

If it doesn't make the final cut, any chance of purchasing it individually? (BTW, wish I was listening to it right now as I am typing this. LOL)
