Hi guys

I've been a huge fan of Airwolf since I saw the syndicated Airwolf: The Movie when visiting the US back in the 1980's.

As soon as it was available on VHS I had to go out and buy it - and still have it to this day, although I'm pretty sure I've worn it out... smile

In my spare time I'm a costumer that raises money for charity in the UK by attending events such as conventions, fairs, fetes etc and am in the process of putting together a screen accurate Airwolf costume.

I've contacted Steve regarding one of his replica lids and am looking forward to his reply.

My questions are thus:

Does anyone know what shoulder holster rig was used during season one and the weapon carried in the holster?

Does anyone know what the boots were that were used in the pilot movie?

I hope you guys can help and look forward to hearing back from you.

Guardian

Thanks for joining the Airwolf Themes Forum, "Guardian".

The Boots were a bespoke design by the show's concept artist, Andrew Probert (who designed The Lady etc.) and implemented by costume designer, Jean-Pierre Dorleac.

There are a few motorcycle boots out there that could suffice I'm sure. e.g.:

or: http://www.aleather.com/p/Dealer-Ca...rcycle-Tornado-Xelement-Boots/41765.html

A bit of grey boot polish (with a bit of dark brown) would match the originals.

Alternatively, here are the guys who replicated my original Jan-Michael Vincent-worn boots for Steve originally (these were the Mk3 prototype that they created -- I now have that Mk3 pair in my possession with the originals as they were UK Size 11 made for me. Only thing they haven't got is the hooks so they used Velcro instead) that you can have bespokely hand-made for your own feet if you want to spend $500:

Here's Jim at MotorCowboy's full web album: http://picasaweb.google.com/motorcowboy/Airwolf?feat=flashalbum# My original boots are beside the replica in some shots (they have the hooks)

As for the shoulder holster, again the entire 1st Season costume was an Andrew Probert design, but I'm sure the shoulder holster would have been a standard US military issue.

Anyway, here's Probert's original MK1 concept for the 'Pilot' episode:

Fantastic!!! Thanks so much for this...

I'm trying to get this costume together for a convention in November - there's two of us that are going to be doing this costume so we can do the Dom and String thing... lol

I've got a seamstress friend who's going to scratch build the flight suits - I think the season 2 and 3 suits are more recognisable, but the season 1 is more "right"... wink

Class. A convention sounds the business. Haven't been to one since the mid-1990s back when I was running the Int'l Airwolf Appreciation Association.

You can always save yourself half the time and just start with a pre-made Airwolf Flight Suit:

http://cosplaysky.com/airwolf-flightsuit-jumpsuit-costume-uniform-flight-suit.html

There are obviously a tonne of inconsistencies compared to the original, but I'm sure your seamstress could "alter" what was necessary. You can buy the extras required (true arm patches) off eBay.

thumbs

...so it's obvious you want to do an Airwolf costume, right or not at all.

Ahhh, that's interesting indeed, thx Dan.

Yes indeed, there are TWO different suits offered... the two-piece and a one-piece.

So for easy future reference:

1-PIECE Airwolf Flightsuit Jumpsuit Costume Uniform Flight Suit
http://cosplaysky.com/airwolf-flightsuit-jumpsuit-costume-uniform-flight-suit.html

2-PIECE Airwolf Flightsuit Costume Uniform Flight Suit
http://cosplaysky.com/cosplay-costumes/tv-drama-costumes/airwolf-flightsuit-costume-uniform.html

To me, it looks like the 1-PIECE has more accurate breast pockets. My money would be on it. Class stuff.

The company I set up to make the boots from direct takes of Marks screen used boots never completed the transaction and the boots were never finished correctly. I made this clear and the hook straps being the biggest issue. They wanted a easy out and used buckels. "BIG NO"
They produced (3) pairs of prototype boots as we went through the proofing phase. It was the second pair that is shown in the photos and the closest pair to Marks originals. They still even with this pair did not complete the strap/hooks correctly. This pair of boots was as close as it gets inside and out for sure. I was to make the hooks and straps to make them really correct but ran short of time to do so.
UPDATE: The owners of Motor Cowboy (fabricators of the replica boots from famous shows) Has been sold off as one of the owners died from cancer. A customer has picked up the business and trying to carry the ball now. I made him aware of the needed changes to the Airwolf boots and we may work this out.

Interesting update. Was it Jim who died or the other guy?

Mark: I am not sure but did not ask. The two brother owners were "Gary" and "Jim" Jim remained for the most part overseas where he worked with China compaines to make the product. "Bro Gary" as he was known as, Stayed here in the states to work the business.
I never approved the making of these Airwolf boots as they never got them correct. This was our agreement. Years later, They were showing the Airwolf boots as Helicopter boots. I contacted them and made it clear our agreement and the boots were not correct. They did as they pleased without the go ahead. They broke our contract and the boots were wrong. I contacted them again recently and only then advised the company was sold to a customer and one brother had died and the other wanted out. This new owner is trying to pick up and run a business from broken pieces.
The Airwolf boots offered here are close as anyone has done but not correct. I work only with correct details and there forth did not sign off on these boots MotorCoyboy made. I kept the best made pair and closest made by them in hopes to continue the research.

The pistol that String carried tucked behind his belt was a Detonics Combat Master. Cutting edge weapon for that time.

Great info Steve.

Can you help Guardian to identify the shoulder holster used during 1st Season?

Please see here the direct link to the movie prop Detonics Combat Master that String used as in the opening movie and several shows after. Small .45 Cal. and very powerful. This link is the same one I bought and if you load the blanks into the bullets correctly with the little powder charges, This little gun will recoil and sound off just like the real deal. It will blast away to the point of hurting your ears and kick back hard, So hold on. I bought this to go with the Airwolf flight suit and helmets. Beautiful prop gun as the studios used and even better is having a real one.
