Airwolf Posters & Paintings -- Frequently Asked Questions

WHY ARE YOU NOT RELEASING PHOTOGRAPHIC-BASED AIRWOLF POSTERS?
Simply down to the fact that Airwolf is copyright to Universal and it would mean paying to use images from the original master 35mm negatives. The costs would be prohibitive and no amount of poster prints would ever recover the costs from paying all the various copyright holders. A photoshop composite would be restricted to the images from the show whereas an illustration has more freedom and potential to expand on the story concerned. Because Airwolf was shot on film you have differences between shots in terms of grain, focus etc. Easier to do a painting where you can keep all the images consistent and you only have to pay the one person (the artist) for the final work.

CAN I PURCHASE THESE PAINTINGS FROM ANY OTHER WEBSITES?
No. Airwolf Themes is the only site authorised by the Graphic Artist to market these Airwolf paintings. You'll be ordering DIRECTLY FROM the Graphic Artist, and not from Airwolf Themes though. All communication should go to Roger Shore, and no one on the Airwolf Themes project as they've received no benefit, fiscal or otherwise for marketing this product. If you see these Airwolf Paintings on any other website for sale, they are either fakes or someone ia selling unauthorized copies. Avoid them! Pirate sites or unauthorized dealers will be tracked down and legal action will be taken.

WHY NOT GET A COLLECTION OF OFF-AIR TELEPICS AND COMPOSITE THEM TOGETHER TO MAKE A HUGE POSTER?
Simply: Quality, Logistics and Legality!
Firstly, telepics – no matter how good they look on your average PC or Mac monitor -- once converted to high-resolution litho-printing resolution in CMYK turn out very small from an initial screen grab, certainly not enough to produce an exciting and dramatic image to even compare with what is being commissioned with the Airwolf Paintings Collectors' Series posters. Just because something looks good on screen does not mean it will be dramatic in the printed form! Secondly, the logistics of doing that are similar to the topic before in that enlarging even the best "telepic" would produce dreadful results at the high resolution required and at an equivalent size of illustration to produce the same dramatic impact. It simply couldn't compete, full stop.

WHY ONLY A2 SIZES. I WANT TO FILL MY WALL.
Simply because European A2 (594 mm x 420mm / 16.5" x 23.4") is a manageable size. A1 is available on request but is £POA. If he went to produce them at A0 (841mm x 1189mm / 33.1" x 46.8") sizes, the current high costs of production and shipping would increase dramatically [and thus the end price to the fans!]. Plus if some people buy the entire Collectors' Series the 7 posters (plus additional bonus of the 'Wolf Insignia' poster by Mark J. Cairns) would take up a lot of fans' wall space. If the posters were produced at twice the current size, fans would only get half the amount of artwork populating the same area. Simple logistical mathematics really. The paintings are done at A0 size to begin with and it’s possible in the future an option would be made available to allow purchases for A0 size but at the minute it’s being limited to only A2, with A1 and A0 being a special order purchase only.

ARE THE POSTERS LIMITED IN PRINT RUN?
No, they are specially printed to order. However, the 'Wolf Insignia' poster is pre-printed Litho.

WHY THE DOUBLE PACKAGING?
It’s to protect your prints in transit and also for long-term storage if you don’t wish to display them for the forseeable future. They will be shipped in two, premium quality mailing tubes and then wrapped further with corrugated board to protect the tube.

WHY THE EXPENSIVE COST OF POSTING?
They are shipped in premium double-layer packaging as stated above, plus 5 years ago the Royal Mail/Parcel Force changed how they dealt with post. Everything is done by weight now. So even a simple DVD posted to the USA would cost GBP£7.15 onto the current cost. Insurance only adds a few pounds to cost so it’s the weight of the package that is the overriding factor. Sadly this isn't Amazon or any major company so doesn't get the tax relief or special discounts because of the amount of mail sent out, that's totally at the whim of the basic Royal Mail/Parcel Force retail prices to the public.

I DON'T HAVE A CREDIT CARD? CAN I PAY BY OTHER MEANS?
Sorry no. PayPal only.

WILL THESE POSTERS BE AVAILABLE TO ALL COUNTRIES?
No. Certain countries such as the Russian Federation, certain Eastern European countries, and South American countries due to the inherent problems of theft on transit within those countries. Even with tracking, items have gone missing in the past and it just became problematic dealing with clients who had not received items in the post.

I’VE JUST PURCHASED A PAINTING POSTER AND DECIDED AT THE LAST MINUTE I DON’T WISH TO COMMIT TO THE BUY. CAN I CHANGE MY MIND?
Once you click the buy button you are committed to the sale. No exceptions or excuses like “I was drunk and I didn’t know what I was doing” or “My 8-year-old was playing around on my computer.” The Graphic Artist will take legal action to make you pay and you really don’t want to have to foot the bill for that. Idiots won't be tolerated. This notice warns any potential time-wasters or try-it-ons. You have been legally notified.

CAN I GET A REFUND IF I DON’T LIKE THE PAINTING?
No. What you see is what you are buying. You won’t receive anything different in the post to what’s advertised, thus why it is explained in length up-front exactly what the goods are before ordering. Please read everything carefully.

IS THIS A FOLLOW UP TO THE ORIGINAL COLLECTORS' POSTERS SERIES FROM 10 YEARS AGO?
No. The original project was abandoned due to the Graphic Artist, Roger Shore’s ill health at the time. He fully recovered after a few years but so much time had elapsed since the original project it was decided to start all over again with a totally different approach, plus an increased skill set.

SO WHY HAVE YOU CHOSEN ONLY SPECIFIC EPISODES FOR THE AIRWOLF PAINTING COLLECTORS' SERIES?
Even though something looks dramatic as a moving image on a television screen, portraying this in a still image can be a different ball-game. What the Graphic Artist has tried to do is catch the essence of the chosen character-driven stories whilst giving an overall visual and aesthetic narrative to the script through a classic film poster-esque approach. 'AIRWOLF II' was more machinery-based due to the nature of the episode, but the exception rather than the rule as most episodes are character-driven and have to reflect that.

I LOVE MY PRINT, CAN I COPY ONE FOR A FRIEND?
No. Your purchase allows you to own that copy for private viewing only for private display. Any public display or copying (digital or physical) is a violation of the conditions in which you purchase the print. Also no hosting images of your print on other websites. Products are constantly monitored around the web. Time is no barrier to dealing with theft or abuse of the terms of purchase.

MY COPY WAS DAMAGED IN THE POST. CAN I GET A REPLACEMENT?
Yes. I require proof (email PDF’s) that it was damaged in the post and not in your private property so that I can start a claim. You have 3 days after receiving the poster to report the damage in writing via E-mail. The reason is that a claim against the British Royal Mail / Post Office has to be done within 15 days of you receiving the item as the British Royal Mail / Post Office will not allows claims after 15 days for Global Post and 30 days for Post within the UK. Any PDF’s much be high quality and not more than 8 meg in size. Most of the time the photographs are enough to get a claim in. So if you live in the USA the damaged item taken against a local newspaper's date should be enough. If the Post Office require the original then I will ask you to return it (My address is on the original packaging). Copy damage does not include damage that happens once it’s in your hands. So spilling tea on it or the dog chewing it is not an excuse for a replacement.

CAN I ORDER WITHOUT HAVING TO USE RECORDED DELIVERY?
No. It’s to prevent fraud and in the event your item should not turn up or go missing despite being tracked, I can issue you a replacement. “Lost” in the Post with tracking is usually taken as 15 days from posting. The Post Office won’t take any action until then. That’s how long you’d have to wait for a new poster to prevent your old one and new one turning up together.

HOW SHOULD I DISPLAY THE PRINTS?
It’s recommended that they be displayed on a wall in whatever frame you want (Hence the white border around the prints) away from direct sunlight. Direct sunlight over a long period of time will damage your prints. Even real paintings are not immune to the ravages of the sun. That’s why galleries have painting in a controlled sun free environment. For long term storage it’s recommended storing the print or prints in their original packing in a cool place but not damp places and away from direct sunlight. This works as I have had prints I’ve purchased stored away for decades and they have come to no harm.

ARE YOU STILL OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS AS TO FUTURE POSTERS?
At the minute Graphic Artist Roger Shore is working on other projects and any future posters are subject to his availability to commit to more Airwolf paintings. The next painting will probably be 'TO SNARE A WOLF' though.

WILL THERE BE ANY PAINTINGS FROM THE CANADIAN AIRWOLF SEASON?
No. Any paintings would have be done by a different artist if there was any such demand for it.

I’M A BIG DOCTOR WHO FAN AND LOVE THOSE OTHER DOCTOR WHO PAINTINGS. CAN I PURCHASE ANY?
Unfortunately, no. They were private commissions and were one-offs. Doctor Who is a BBC Worldwide copyright and the Graphic Artist Roger Shore currently has no permission to sell those.

Please E-mail Roger Shore with suggestions or go to our Airwolf Themes Discussion Forum and leave your views there.
